Safety Tips While in Barcelona

General Safety Tips

  • Be aware of your surroundings. Do not walk with your head down using your phone.

  • Register with your country's state department to receive travel notices, register your passport, and provide your contact information.

  • Do not make yourself a target. Open markets are prime places for those targeting tourists (pick pocketing, scammers etc).   If you need to reference a map, do so in a café or less traveled spot.

  • Only carry the amount of money needed for the day. We recommend you secure any valuables in the safe in your hotel room.

  • Do not wear haversacks on your back. Pickpockets are experts and many will do a "grab and run." This includes phones.

  • Pickpockets target markets and cafes where people put their bags on the floor.

  • Keep your wallet and phone in the front pocket of zipped bags that are out of site.

  • Spanish law requires you to have photographic identification with you at all times.

  • Do not be fooled by fake police officers. Official police are easily identifable.
